About

Welcome to the Johnson’s. Come on in and grab a plate- dinner is almost ready.

I’m Lisa. Wife, mother of 4, teacher, type 1 diabetic, and baked goods pusher. We live in a small town in Illinois about 15 miles from where I grew up. I am married to Superman, a Navy Veteran and Nuclear Reactor Operator. Our 4 kiddos range in age from 26 to 8, which means there is never a dull moment around here. We love to spend time with our friends and family laughing, eating, and planning our next adventure.

In this house there’s a lot of activity, crazy schedules, and probably dishes in the sink. Thankfully there’s always something cooking. We’re so happy you’ve stopped by. Grab a drink and make yourself at home. I hope you’re hungry!

What Makes You Happy?

All of this started with a question- What makes you happy? It was a, “what do you wanna be when you grow up” kind of conversation with Momma, my mother-in-law. How the answer did not smack me in the face, I’ll never know! That question was in the back of my mind for a couple of days before I knew the answer. What makes me happy is cooking and baking! My husband has teased me about this many times over the years. I am in my element in my kitchen, my happy place. If you are looking for me at home, check the kitchen first.

But there’s a few things I need you to understand about me: *I am not a professional chef/baker. *I have not had any formal training or cooking lessons. *I do not always love to cook with other adults, I’m kind of a 1-woman wolfpack. The exception to that is kids, I LOVE to cook with kids! *When I am really stressed, I make pie, and my pies are not beautiful. *My UPS driver years back had to start running because I was “making him fat.” *I show love and gratitude by making food. If I cook/bake for you, you are important to me. *I change or do something to every recipe I touch. (much to my mom’s dismay)

This blog is all about love, family, and good food. I would love it if you stop by from time to time.
